Between history and local produce in Nivelles and Waterloo districts

On a route combining history and local produce, set out to explore western Walloon Brabant,
taking in several gourmet stops and historic sites.
Starting from Nivelles, this 56.5 km route gives you the chance to satisfy your thirst for taste exploration.
From the beer produced in a place rich in history, to the fruit liqueurs and wines of a passionate artisan,
through delicious dairy products, reputed gourmet chocolates, take your palate on the discovery of a host of new flavours in our local products!
The route offers a number of gourmet experiences such as the famous Târte al Djote de Nivelles,
the hot pie with cheese and chard, or the unique Gueuze beer produced in Wallonia.

Things to see:



1. Chocolaterie Alexandre in Nivelles
Serge Alexandre, patissier-chocolate maker honoured with the title of Belgium's best chocolate maker, proposes quality products made exclusively in his workshop making the best use of ingredients and of his know-how! The pure cocoa butter chocolates are of various origins and are only made in combination with fresh seasonal fruit.

2. Les Apéros de Philomène in Vieux-Genappe
This artisan liqueur establishment, set up in a magnificent barn, offers a wide range of aperitifs based on plants, fruit wines, pékèts as well as jellies and syrups. Made by hand in the natural way, they are available on site after the visit and also in the Pass'Avant shop.

3. Ferme de Mont-Saint-Jean in Waterloo
Mont-Saint-Jean farm served as military hospital to the British troops during the Battle of Waterloo. In the company of the master brewer, you will find out about all the stages in the craft manufacture of the Waterloo beer. Apart from the different beers produced on site, the charming boutique offers a range of local Belgian products.

4. Ferme du Château in Ophain-Bois-Seigneur-Isaac
Here you will find a range of dairy products like the cheese, the ice-cream, the sorbet, and also the delicious fresh milk, available 24 hours.

5. Gueuzerie Tilquin in Bierghes
In the Senne valley, the Gueuzerie Tilquin is the only brewery to produce this delicious variety of beer in Wallonia. It gathers worts freshly brewed by other producers, which it then puts into oak barrels. The beers ferment and mature for 1, 2 or 3 years.
