Description
Situated near Villers-la-Ville Abbey, the Chapel of Our Lady of the Afflicted is a place of worship whose origins date back to the 17th century.
Built in the wake of a plague epidemic that struck the region, it bears witness to the people’s devotion and the hope placed in the Virgin Mary’s intercession to protect the inhabitants.
Over time, the chapel has become an important local place of pilgrimage, attracting the faithful who come to entrust their difficulties and sufferings to Notre-Dame des Affligés.
Restored on several occasions, it still retains its peaceful character and its close link with the religious and popular history of Villers-la-Ville.
