Musée L
Belgium’s first large-scale university museum, Musée L brings together 1,500 of the 20,000 works in its collections. Unexpected encounters, questioning the world and our humanity… An entire programme.
Invent. Debate.
Quite an art.
Pushing open the door of Musée L means thousands of encounters between science and the arts. Musée L seeks to start a dialogue between works of art, objects from civilisations and scientific inventions, while favouring experimentation and direct contact with the works.
20,000 Works
Explore the 3,830 m² of publicly accessible space spread over 6 floors and discover the collections from 5 continents ranging from prehistory to the 20th century.
Musée L is a place for encounters, exchange and discovery of other people and their culture. It brings together works of art, natural history specimens, archaeological and ethnographic objects and scientific inventions.
New Emotions
Musée L is clearly not a museum like any other!
Don’t be surprised to see a Buddha rubbing shoulders with a medieval Christ or ancient writings in front of calculating machines… Musée L is a place of exchange and life, dedicated to emotion and exploration, breaking with a narrow vision of reality. You will be able to handle, touch and even play with the works.
For more information
Musée L contains three labs so you can experiment with engraving, sculpture and colour techniques.
The Musée L, it’s also…
It is an emblematic building of Belgian modern architecture built by André Jacqmain. Formerly the Science and Technology Library of the Catholic University of Leuven, the building was completely renovated in 2017.
Permanent and temporary exhibitions and also lectures, concerts, afterwork activities, creative workshops, night-time events, courses, birthday parties and much more…
Thematic tours to explore the collections. You can choose between different themes for your visit: religion, history of the university, Belgian art, engraving, conservation of the works, etc.
Musée L offers tools appropriate for all audiences, regardless of age or barriers owing to disability. Young visitors can explore the museum’s collections through play and art activities.
