Chapelle Saint-Donat

Genappe

Saint-donat

Description

This chapel is dedicated to Saint Donat, traditionally invoked to protect homes and crops from storms; it is an iconic feature of the local heritage.

First mentioned in the 18th century, it once stood near the old Bouffioux farm.

The original building was lost during the construction of the RN25 in the 1980s, but it was rebuilt a few years later nearby using reclaimed materials such as bricks and blue stone.

Now owned by the Town of Genappe, the chapel continues to benefit from the dedication and commitment of volunteers and local families who ensure its preservation.

It also remains an important stop on the Tour Saint-Barthélemy, thus perpetuating a tradition deeply rooted in the region.
