Eglise Saint-Laurent cYves-Henri FeltzIttre - Eglise Saint-Laurent

Description

Refuge of the population in case of an invasion during the Middle Ages, this former 12th-century watchtower still gathers the population, but in a more religious context, as it has since been converted into the Saint-Laurent church of Haut-Ittre, in Roman Païs.

Over the years, this nice little church of Ittre acquired a central nave and a choir in Romanesque style, while the side naves were added later. Various Romanesque and Gothic styles, illustrating more than five centuries of religious architecture, blend together in this building. The church is dedicated to Saint Laurence whose martyrdom is depicted in an 1850 painting.
