Description
Three stone quarries were mined in Dongelberg.
The Carrières de Quartzite de Dongelberg company was founded in 1897 to manage one of these quarries.
Very soon these quarries were producing nearly 500,000 paving stones annually as well as many rubble stones.
One of the three sites was abandoned around 1913 and the other two were demolished at the end of World War 2.
Today these quarries are full of water and are managed by the Walloon water company.
It is possible to dive there via the Dongelberg Diving Center. The maximum diving depth is 40m. Various fish have been reintroduced into the quarry.
